Portugal 2019 Mission Trip
Time to Tour
Today was our sightseeing day! We started the morning by driving over to a cafe owned by a friend of the Shoemakers before heading into downtown Lisbon.
Our first stop was an old elevator designed in the same style as the Eiffel Tower. It took us up to a view point where we could see Lisbon and the surrounding area including the Castle of São Jorge.
Then we headed to the mall for lunch and a quick break before we started for the castle. São Jorge is an old keep on top of a hill (we walked the whole way up through the streets) that used to be used to defund the city and was home to Portuguese kings. Now it is mostly ruins and exhibits but super impressive and fun to explore!
We finished up the evening on one of the main streets downtown learning history of Lisbon from “tour guide” Traci Shoemaker, walking down to the waterfront, and shopping for souvenirs. We had dinner along that street at an outdoor restaurant before getting gelato and heading home.
It was a nice relaxing day after a long week of VBS and fun to learn more about Portugal! Tomorrow we go to church and then are helping with an outreach event.
Elizabeth Meinders for the team.
