Celebrating our Risen Christ!
That first week of Easter began with the frenzied celebration of Jesus as King of Kings. Laughter, delight, singing, and dancing all strode down the street in a parade of emotions accompanying Jesus to the city gates of Jerusalem.
But, just six days later, the memory of that joyous moment turned dark. A storm cloud of frightful fears and determined doubts burst onto the scene. It was Good Friday and the crucifixion of Jesus squelched the laughter and ruined the smiles! What had gone wrong?! How could the King die?! Who would save humanity now?!
The answer? Easter morning and the resurrection. And yet, even then, some of his closest friends still could not believe it was true. Doubt in the midst of confusion can be a stubborn thing. After all…death is death. No one had ever brought themself back to life, especially after such a horrific and gruesome death. Doubt was as plentiful that Easter morning as eggs at a Community Easter egg hunt.
The beauty of that Easter morning was that God understood the doubts and spoke into them, not against them. He allowed the doubts to arise…but then put them to rest with proofs that could not be denied. He offers the same to us all each Easter. So this year, let’s enter in to Easter with delight and leave behind any doubts we might have that would rob us of his joy and offer of new life!
