Tuesday
Wow! We are all are learning so much. We started off the day breaking into three teams to continue work on the porches. Demolishing and rebuilding, we soon accomplished our goal and repaired four porches, the same number as yesterday, but in half the time. Halfway through the day, we had a group break off to continue clearing brush. At three o'clock, we got back on the Adventure Learning Center bus and broke into two teams to go to two separate orphanages, the Emergency Youth Hostel and the Nazarene Center. There, we played with kids and helped them with their homework, using the toys and sports equipment we brought with us. They immediately took to us, showing how much they needed love and affection. We came home after this long work day to find that a Bahamian family, friends of Shawn and Ally, had made us a delicious meal of traditional Bahamian foods. We asked many questions about the culture and the people of the Bahamas, and gained insight into this world that is so different from our own. After a lengthy debrief, we gratefully went to sleep, a bit sore but eager for the new day ahead.
Wednesday
Today we built two more porches, cleared brush from the side of the road, sanded yesterday's porches and fixed torn screens on people's doors and windows. We are really starting to see the positive impact that we are having on this camp with each passing day; it is very encouraging. Once again we had a shorter day at All Saints' so that we would have time to go and play with the orphans. Their eyes lit up when they saw that we had come back, but many of them were tearing up as we were leaving. On a positive note, we were able to give them all of the toys and sports equipment that we brought to the Bahamas. Sad as we are to have our time with the orphans come to an end, we face a new adventure tomorrow with the field trip to Ardestra Gardens with the residents of All Saints'. Tonight, we will be hanging out with the youth group from Calvary Bible Church. We love and miss you all but are having the most meaningful experiences of our lives so far. Our God is truly great!
