Twenty years ago, life became difficult and I went through a period of oppression and rebuilding. I attended a workshop recommended by a friend. They instructed me to memorize Psalm 1 and then meditate on it. This was a new concept for me but I was desperate.
I learned the first two verses gave me instruction: “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the path of sinners or sit in the seat of scoffers. But delights in the law of the Lord, in his law he meditates day and night.” When I was willing to de-focus on my oppressors and focus on Christ and His word, the following verse (vs. 3) of promise began to develop in my life. “For he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields fruit in its season, his leaves never wither. Whatever he does prospers.”
Whenever I wander away from His word or find myself paying more attention of others than God, He directs me back to Psalms 1. Today ask the Lord to give you a scripture you can hold dear to your heart and remember in times of crises as well as joy.
