For quite a long time now, I have chosen to measure my days by a specific verse of Scripture. It’s one that I reflect on almost daily, and during my time alone with the Lord, I ask him to show me if I have failed to obey it in any way. The verse is Psalm 19:14: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
That is my greatest desire—to please him. But sometimes, as I ask him this question and truly open my heart to his answer, he brings to my mind something that day that fell short of his pleasure. Oh, my words may have been fine, but the meditation of my heart—my thoughts—were not totally of him. And seeing that clearly, repenting and enjoying his forgiveness—these are the things that cause me to grow in my walk with him and to love him even more.
