Today is the anniversary of my brother’s death. Rusty was painfully ill for six years before his passing. During most of that time, we lived hours apart. Thankfully, we had occasional opportunity to talk about Jesus and eternity, and he did profess faith. Even so, I often feel regret letting what seemed urgent get in the way of spending more time with him.
The book of Colossians tells us to reach out to people while we have opportunity: “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” (4:5). Let’s pray and consider people in our lives with whom we can share God’s grace. Then, let’s not let the feeling of urgency “get in the way” of spending time with those in need of eternal life.
