I was challenged by Nehemiah’s eagerness to exchange the comfort of Susa for the brokenness of Jerusalem. His response to God’s call reminds me of a strong challenge from Jesus in Luke 9:23-25. As we pray through this passage, let’s ask God to develop within us a passion for His glory for which we would gladly lay down our rights and comforts for the sake of following Jesus.
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?”
